Clark Hoskin Joins the MDB Insight Team
We are pleased to welcome Clark Hoskin, B.F.A., Ec.D., to the MDB Insight team as a Senior Consultant.
Since 1994, Clark has worked in destination marketing and economic development at a community and regional level. For nearly two decades, Clark was the Director of Tourism & Economic Development for Norfolk County. His substantial expertise in key economic development and tourism initiatives will be a valuable asset to our municipal clientele.
Clark will start working on projects immediately. His arrival not only continues our practice of hiring individuals with practical industry experience, it is also very timely given the current pandemic-related economic climate. Clark has worked through economic recovery in the past and knows first-hand the challenges presently facing municipalities. He navigated Norfolk County through a significant tobacco industry decline and economic downturn by attracting industry, retaining small businesses, and supporting start-ups of wineries and breweries. As a result, Norfolk County was named second Best Place to Invest in Canada, 2010 and saw the highest rate of growth in median total household income in southwestern Ontario between 2005 and 2015.
“I’m keen to bring my knowledge and experience in economic recovery to the broader municipal landscape,” Clark says. “This is an interesting time to be joining a national firm, and I’m looking forward to working with communities across the country as economic recovery plans move ahead”.
The tourism sector has been highly impacted by COVID-19 and Clark is an expert in that industry. His background in destination marketing, for example, includes successful investment attraction efforts and award-winning partnerships. He facilitated the creation of the South Coast Shuttle connecting Lake Erie communities and coordinated study tours of the Finger Lakes region for tourism operators, garnering the Award for Best Regional and Cross-Border Collaboration from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario in 2015.
Clark is passionate about business collaboration and community revitalization “by embracing change, sharing ideas and developing solutions that fit the need”. He describes himself as “a creative problem-solver” and enjoys the challenge of finding options and opportunities in any scenario.
Clark is a member of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) and Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO).
